Bertolli Organic Pasta Sauce – Review

For quite a while I was making my own homemade pasta sauce.  I will have to post the recipe one day, because it was delicious.  :)  However, I save spaghetti for nights when I need to make dinner quick, and my homemade pasta sauce was definitely not a Dinner’s-Ready-In-15-Minutes meal.

There are lots of organic pasta sauce choices at the grocery store, but some are pretty expensive!  I was excited to see this Bertolli Organic Pasta Sauce on the shelf, because not only is it made with just a handful of organic ingredients, but it is priced so reasonably!!  I can get this at Target, and when I went this week, it just had another price cut down to $1.99!  (Previously it was $2.50!)

Although it’s not as good as homemade (I mean, what can touch homemade sauce?!), this sauce is still really good.  It comes in two varieties, Olive Oil, Basil & Garlic and Traditional Tomato & Basil.  I do wish it came in more varieties, but I will definitely keep purchasing this sauce for those Dinners-In-A-Pinch!

I am desperate to find a jarred pasta sauce that is made with ONLY fresh organic ingredients. Hubby and I both have inflammatory conditions and we are cutting out all possibilities of plastic/metal can contamination. Every pasta sauce including organics claim to be made with tomato paste and to my knowledge this has to be CANNED! I have found one brand called Eden that is made with just organic tomato but I cannot locate it anywhere near me and would be cost prohibitive to pay for shipping plus the price they charge per jar. I too am limited on time, most of the time, or I would make my own too.
Any ideas? Love you site green gal …:) Lee

      Hi Lee!

In terms of finding a jarred sauce without canned tomato paste, I think my first step would be to contact a few manufacturers of organic sauce to see if the tomato paste they use is actually canned. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were able to find one or more that does not use canned tomato paste since many tomato product manufacturers also make tomato paste.

Another thing you could do is to set aside some time once in a while and make a large batch of sauce and freeze it, using only ingredients that fit your criteria.

Good luck in finding/making a sauce, thank you so much for visiting our site!!
