About a year and a half ago, I started breaking out like crazy. I mean the painful kind. Seriously, like I was a teenager. I was talking to Shannon about it one day, and she told me about this Burt’s Bees Blemish Stick.
At the time I was using some spot treatment by Neutrogena. I couldn’t believe how much better the Burt’s Bees worked! It is awesome! As soon as I feel something under my skin, I just roll some of this on. I have much better luck with the Burt’s Bees quelling a pimple than anything else.
Some spot treatments create a film-like layer when they dry (think dry Elmer’s glue), but this does not. As a result, you can use it before you put on your makeup (or cover-up!), and it won’t get sticky or ball up.
I will warn you that this smells SUPER strong, like black licorice and tea tree oil! If I put it on before bed, my husband will say, “What are you wearing??” Fortunately it dissipates pretty quickly. :)
I also wanted to post a sidenote… as Shannon and I were talking that day, she told me the exact thing was happening to her (in terms of breaking out), and that she realized it was dairy causing the problem for her!! I was like, “What??!!”
So I did my own little experiment, just avoiding dairy for a bit. Sure enough, I stopped breaking out! My skin was clear until I had pizza one night… and I woke up the next morning with the painful beginnings of a pimple! I stopped the dairy again, and again the breakouts stopped. After adding in/taking out dairy from my diet over the course of several months, I narrowed the problem down to cheese (even raw cheese) causing the problem for me. After avoiding it for a very long time, I can now incorporate cheese back in from time to time without a problem. But if I notice that my skin is beginning to freak out, cheese is the first thing I get rid of. The only reason I am posting this bit is if someone else out there is having unexplained breakouts! It may very well be something in your diet!
Anyways, for those times when you do need a blemish spot treatment on hand, the Burt’s Bees Blemish stick is awesome! Also, it scores a 10 Health Rating at GoodGuide (10 being the best) and a 2 Risk Rating at Skin Deep (0 being the best).
