I’d been eyeing the Clarisonic Mia for a bit, wondering if it was just an expensive gadget or whether it was really worthy of all the buzz it was getting. Of course I read bunches of reviews on this little guy before I bought it, the vast majority of reviews being positive. I bought it at Sephora where I knew I could easily return it if I was less than impressed.
Oh how I love this!! I decided on the regular Mia (there is a Mia 2, and several Plus/Pro versions as well) because I didn’t think I would use/need any of the other features of the other models. This was the least expensive model, and after using it for about 4 months, it’s still the version I would purchase if I had to do it all over again.
After reading reviews and knowing my skin type, I knew I also wanted to purchase the Deep Pore Cleansing brush head instead of using the Sensitive brush head that came in my particular box. (That’s why my brush is blue, unlike the one on the front of the box.)
If you have no idea what a Clarisonic Mia is, it is a sonic skin cleansing system. Clarisonic is the same manufacturer of the sonic toothbrushes. Looks are deceiving, because before I had one, I always thought this brush rotated in order to clean and exfoliate. It doesn’t; it vibrates at a sonic frequency (they say 300 times per second) to cleanse your skin.
According to Clarisonic:
Sonic Cleansing Benefits:
- Removes 6X more makeup than manual cleansing
- Leaves skin feeling and looking smoother
- Removes impurities that keep creams and serums from working their best
- Gentle enough to use twice a day
- Reduces oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes
- Minimizes the appearance of visible pores
The Mia definitely leaves your skin super clean. Whatever skincare products you use honestly just work better because they are going on fresh skin! When I wake up in the morning, my skin feels like a baby’s butt it’s so smooth. I’ve never had wonderful skin, so this difference is extremely noticeable to me! I don’t think I’ve even had an actual pimple materialize since I’ve been using the Mia, and I definitely couldn’t say that before!
I certainly don’t think the Mia will make you have movie-star skin overnight, but I do think it can help you have the best skin you can get. In other words, my skin still has issues, but it feels the best it has in a long time.
I use it both in the morning and in the evening. I don’t like the entire unit always sitting out on my counter to dry (I guess that’s my OCD coming out), so each time after I use it, I remove the brush head and set it out to air dry. Then I just dry off the main unit and stash it in my drawer. So just the little brush head sits out.
Many people use the Mia to remove their makeup. Again, maybe it’s my OCD, but I can’t imagine getting the brush gunked up with makeup! I first wash all my makeup off, then after rinsing, I go back and spread a thin layer of cleanser back onto my skin. Then I dampen the brush head and cleanse away! The Mia has a 1 minute timer. I’m usually done with my face after that minute, but occasionally I will hit the button again to get the remaining areas of my skin.
The Mia makes my skin feel so nice, that even on nights when I’m super tired, I still take the extra minute to use it! My skin just feels refreshed after it’s been Mia’d. :)
Most (all?) kits come with a small bottle of cleanser, but you can use your own cleanser with this!
The brushes should be replaced every 3-4 months, so I’m due for a new one!! When you register your Mia at Clarisonic, they send you a $25 off coupon to use at their website. I’m planning on using mine on brush refills! The brushes are $25 each or 2 for $40.
Also, even though I use it twice a day, my Mia typically only needs to be charged about once a week. It gives you a little extra vibrate/buzz when the timer goes off and it’s time to recharge. :)
One last thing – the Mia comes with a warranty (the length may be different depending upon the model you get – mine is a one year warranty). However, if you buy it from an unauthorized dealer, the warranty is void. If you purchase it from a salon/spa/retail location, you should be fine. But if you’re price-shopping on Amazon, know that Amazon is NOT an authorized dealer. I saw comments from a few people who had purchased theirs off Amazon, needed to make a warranty claim, and were upset because their warranty was void. Either get it direct from Clarisonic or use an authorized location!
