Nate’s Sloppy Joe – Recipe

My daughter (and husband) will eat ANYTHING!  Now my son, he isn’t super picky, but he won’t eat anything I put in front of him like the other two mouths I feed.  So…I had to experiment and find out what his favorites are.  Thankfully a lot of them freeze really well so I can freeze small portions of his faves to feed him when I make a meal that he doesn’t like.  This Sloppy Joe recipe is one of his favorites!

Nate's Sloppy Joe
  • 1 lb beef
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup water
  • 1½ tsp worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ Tbsp salt
  • ½ Tbsp allspice
  1. Brown meat and drain.
  2. Add all ingredients into the pan.
  3. Cover and simmer for 1½ hours.

WARNING:  Whoever invented Sloppy Joe definitely got the name right!  Yikes!  We all know toddlers can make a mess out of anything but wow, they can do a number with Sloppy Joe.  I’m willing to pay that price but I just wanted to make sure I warned you!

And like I said, this is another meal that freezes and reheats really well.  Enjoy!

    Hi Shannon,
I made these last night for the first time and they were so good!! I did have to use a little more water than the 1/2 cup to let it simmer for 1 1/2 hours. I probably ended up adding about 2 cups of water total, but it still had a really great flavor and everyone loved them! Thanks for sharing!

Hi April! Thanks for pointing that out! I cover the pot when I simmer it and I didn’t originally include that part in the directions. I added it now though. :) Thanks!!!
